Chinese beats Pinoy Cue Masters - World Cup of Pool 2010

MANILA, Philippines – The pairing of Li He-wen and Fu Jian-bo of China beat Filipino duo of Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo and Roberto "Pinoy Superman" Gomez, 10-5, in a dramatic final to bag the 2010 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool Sunday night.
“We are very happy with the victory but we just got the luck we needed from the Philippines team,” said Fu. “They made a few mistakes and we took advantage from that. The Philippines team literally gave us the match because they made a lot more mistakes than we did. It was very pressured because it was a pro-Filipino crowd.”
“It was like the home court advantage so to win here we are very happy winning the tournament,” he added.
It was a fitting way to end the tournament that featured 32 teams from 31 different nations competing over 6 days at the Midtown wing of Robinsons Place Manila.
Li and Fu, also the 2007 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool Champion, received the top prize of $60,000 (roughly P2.5 million) in the $250,000 total pot prize tournament.
Orcollo and Gomez, who comprise Philippines B, didn't go home empty-handed went home the runner-up prize of $30,000.
After a 1-all deadlock, China made a bright start and led the match, 9-1, in the race-to-10, scotch doubles, winner’s break format.

However, Orcollo and Gomez, fought back and won 4 straight racks to cut the lead at 9-5. Orcollo's jump on the 1-ball went wrong in the 15th rack, allowing the Chinese duo to clean up the table.
With 1 ball away, Fu looked at the crowd, took a deep breath and got down to shoot and sink the 9-ball en route to a 10-5 victory.
Earlier, Orcollo and Gomez entered the finals with a 9-8 victory over Chang Jung-lin and Ko Pin-yi of Chinese-Taipei on Sunday. Li and Fu, meantime, beat Ralf Souquet and Oliver Ortmann of Germany, 9-7, to set up a battle royale against the last Filipino team standing.
Orcollo and Gomez made it to the semifinals by defeating Mika Immonen and Markus Juva, 9-1, of Finland on Saturday.
