RP seniors top Asean cagefest

MANILA, Philippines - Former PBA star Elmer Reyes flashed vintage form and fired 30 points as the Filipino-Chinese Veterans Basketball Association (FCVBA) beat Indonesia to capture the 50-years-and-above crown in the ASEAN Veterans Invitational basketball tournament at the Negri Recreational Club in Seremban, Malaysia Thursday.

The 52-year-old Reyes highlighted his game-long brilliance with four triples, the third sparking a big third quarter windup that ripped the game wide open. The Filipinos also beat the Indons in the elims, 64-61.
Others who shone for the Jake de Guia-mentored FCVBA squad were Edward Tio, Noli Banate, Lim Eng Beng, Ching Ka Lee, Jimi Lim and Kenneth Yap as the Filipinos completed their five-game sweep of the centerpiece event.
FCVBA’s win made up for the delegation’s 80-85 defeat to New City of Singapore in the 40-years-and-above division.
The FCVBA also bowed to Kuala Lumpur in the 60-years-and-above division.
FCVBA, on the other hand, drew a career-high 39 points from Terry Que to clobber Sarawak of host country, 97-54, for third place honors.
