Asian Games Teams draw set for Oct 7.

Guangzhou, China - Another big step on the road to the 16th Asian Games will be taken on Thursday, October 7, when the draw for team sports is held at the Garden Hotel.

The eight sports to come under the Asian Games spotlight will be football, basketball, handball, water polo, seven-a-side rugby, volleyball, sepak takraw and gymnastics in the three disciplines of artistic, rhythmic and trampoline.

The deadline for the Olympic Council of Asia's 45 National Olympic Committees to submit their "entry by number" to organising committee GAGOC passed on July 31. This gave the organisers a general idea of the number of teams entered for each sport, but this figure can still change before the NOCs submit their final "entry by name" by September 30.

The OCA has warned all NOCs, however, that they will be punished if they withdraw a team after the draw for team sports has been conducted on October 7.

On the men's side, football has attracted the most entries with 27 teams, followed by basketball with 21 and volleyball with 17.

On the women's side, volleyball and basketball have attracted 10 teams, rugby and handball nine and football eight.

The 16th Asian Games will run from November 12 - 27 and feature 476 events in 42 sports.
