Chris Lutz eligible to Play for Smart Gilas in ASIAD

“I was always thinking that he’ll be part of Smart-Gilas. I never doubted, I never thought of anybody taking his spot,” Toroman said.

The 6-foot-4 Lutz had been playing for the national team in various tournaments abroad using a passport from the United States, where he was born.

He was recruited by Smart-Gilas last May when he joined the team in the FIBA-Asia Champions Cup in Doha, Qatar.

However, Lutz, as well as American import Marcus Douthit – whose naturalization is now being processed in the Congress – was barred from playing for the Nationals in the Stankovic Cup in Beirut, Lebanon because he had no Philippine passport.
