PSC to allocate additional P10m for Asian Games

THE Philippine Sports Commission will allocate an additional P10 million to cover the cost of the equipment of the athletes set tp see action in the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou.

PSC chairman Richie Garcia said the government sports agency has started taking into account the logistical requests of athletes in cycling, bowling, dragon boat, shooting and taekwondo.
“The equipment needs are over and above what the PSC will spend on the participation of the athletes in the Asian Games,” Garcia said.

The PSC has set aside P30 million for a delegation of 300 in the Asiad.
So far, 244 athletes have been listed in the national contingent, and the list will still be updated.
Meanwhile, Indonesia will limit the number of participants in selected events of the 26th Southeast Asian Games.
Games organizers said that they are planning to impose quotas in boxing, wrestling, wushu, judo, diving and sepak takraw to keep one member country from dominating the medal tally.

“Quotas will also be provided to save the use of venues, because there is one of two venues that are used for sport branches and because the two areas where the games will be held has limited venues,” said Indonesian SEA Games Organizing Committee deputy chairman Indra Kartasasmita in a statement published by the Jakarta Post.
Kartasasmita said they are still mapping out the format of the quota system.
