US cager Marcus Douthit granted Filipino citizenship

AMERICAN Marcus Douthit is now a Filipino by law.

Douthit’s Filipino citizenship was granted by the House of Representatives through House bill 2307 filed by Antipolo Representative Robbie Puno.

The House voted 212-9 in favor of Douthit’s naturalization as a Filipino.

Douthit, a former Los Angeles Laker in the National Basketball Association, has been tapped by the Smart-Gilas Pilipinas team to reinforce the squad in time for the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China slated to be held on November.

Puno actually filed separate bills for the citizenship of Douthit and another foreign national, Zheng Xiaojing of China, who has been tapped to play for the Asean championship the country is hosting this month, but Congress deferred from deciding on the case of Zheng, citing concerns on the budget and because of objections of several lawmakers to the bill.
