Cardinals eye Final 4 vs Blazers

STALLED in its bid for a Final Four squad by defending champion San Sebastian College last Monday, Mapua tries anew today, against College of St. Benilde, as action in the 86th NCAA men’s basketball tournament resumes at The Arena in San Juan.
The Cardinals tried hard to beat the Stags but failed to sustain their drive and eventually dropped a 76-85 loss, their sixth against eight wins, that kept the Letran Knights (6-8) in the running for a Final Four slot.
"We’ll try to accomplish what we failed to do the last time out, to win and make it to the Final Four officially," said Mapua coach Chito Victolero, whose charges battle the Blazers, long eliminated in the semis chase, at 4 p.m.

Emilio Aguinaldo College (2-12) and Perpetual (0-14) collide at 2 o’clock in a non-bearing duel.
The Blazers will go into the game with a 5-10 record and nothing to lose, according to Victolero.
"It’s always hard playing a team with nothing to lose and everything to gain so we have to really watch out," said Victolero, whose team escaped with a 65-63 win over the Blazers in the first round last Aug. 6.
