Milo Sports camp hopes to find future Pinoy sports heroes

The Milo Champ Camp rolled into various schools all over the Philippines, aiming to find future Filipino champions at the grass roots level.

The barnstorming program, organized in partnership with the Department of Education and local National Sports Associations (NSA), plans to teach children not only the basics and skills of various sporting activities but to also develop their values.

The camp gives basic sports principles in basketball (dribbling, passing and shooting), soccer or football (dribbling and shooting) and baseball (catching and batting). A pool of coaches teach kids the basic skills of the three sports.
"We have long been championing values formation through sports. Through the Milo Champ Camp we want to have an active role in the grassroots level," said Milo Beverages business executive manager Afnan Ahsan during Thursday’s launch of the Milo Champ Camp at the Ponciano Bernardo Elementary School in Quezon City.

Ahsan added that today's technology has influenced children to live an inactive lifestyle.

"An inactive lifestyle is not beneficial to the children of today. Through sports, kids can learn teamwork, honesty, discipline, leadership and determination, values that will prepare them in the game of life," he added.

The Milo Champ Camp is an educational program aimed to teach and encourage kids to lead a healthy and active lifestyle presented in a fun and interactive way.

The program aims to visit 700 elementary schools all over the Philippines.

Aside from the sports programs, experts also hold discussions where they inform and teach parents the values kids get from sports and food nutrition.

"The Milo Champ Camp aims to encourage school children to get into sports and help them learn the character-forming values that come with it," said Milo marketing promotions and events executive Yvette Papasin.

Papasin said they also plan to add volleyball next school year owing to the popularity of the sport among elementary students.

Also present was Smart Gilas cager and collegiate champion Chris Tiu, who started his basketball career in Grade 4 under the Milo-Best SBP-Pasarelle program. – Jon Perez, GMANews.TV
