Talented Rookies to mark PBL return

MANILA, Philippines—Expect some promising finds when the revived Philippine Basketball League (PBL) unfolds on March 12 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

Several talented rookies will strut their wares in the league that drew recently some of the top amateurs led by Ateneo’s Eric Salamat, San Sebastian’s Calvin Abueva and UE’s Paul Lee, according to league officials.
“There will be new faces and Fil-Am players who are going to play,” said league chair Ding Camua of Pharex.

“Right now, we’re more concentrated on getting the PBL off the ground and rebuilding the league,” new commissioner Nolan Bernardino said in the PSA Forum at Shakey’s UN Avenue in Manila.
Excelroof—the last team to capture the crown before the league indefinitely closed shop March 2010—aims for another shot at the title against Pharex, Cobra Energy Drink, Agrinurture-FCA and Café France.

Officials added in the forum presented by Shakey’s, Pagcor and Outlast Battery that negotiations have been ongoing with NBN 4 for the games’ television coverage.

Sports Vision, the outfit behind the successful staging of the Shakey’s V-League and Baseball Philippines Series, will also oversee the technical and venue operations and officiating.
